Sulzer CompaX

High Mixing Efficiencies at Short Mixing Length

To achieve high quality mixing over the shortest distance and by the simplest technical means, including a small pressure drop, the Sulzer CompaX is the most efficient & economical choice for admixing additives in the turbulent flow regime at the highest flow rates.

The low pressure drop significantly saves pump energy and thanks to the CompaX highly efficient mixing device with its integrated dosing point , it massively improves the consumption of additives.

For larger pipe diameters, you can admix up to 6 additives using only one mixing element.

Sulzer SMV

Mixing Efficiently with Low Energy Consumption

The Sulzer static mixer type SMV is well suited for applications that require a distributive and homogenous mixing and blending action in the turbulent flow regime.

This typically occurs between immiscible phases where an interfacial tension exists. Examples of this include; oil/water or gas/liquid systems.

The SMV offers fast and complete reaction, absorption or extraction due to high mass transfer area. High mass transfer area is achieved as a result of continuous renewal of the interface surface area.

Technical Specification
  • SMV diameter: from 8 mm – 250 mm
  • Minimum space requirement of mixer and disperser
  • Low energy requirements
  • High mixing efficiency combined with large turn-down processing capabilities
  • Short mixing length
  • Standard materials: 316 stainless steel, PPE, PTFE, PVDF

Sulzer SMI & KVM

Efficient Mixing for Turbulent Flows

The Sulzer static mixer type SMI and KVM are well suited for liquid-liquid mixing in the turbulent flow regime.

The mixing elements of both mixer types create large counter rotating vortices, ensuring efficient mixing over the entire cross section of the pipe.

Static mixer type SMI is mainly sold in Europe and Asia, whereas the KVM type is the standard product for the North and South American market.

The SMI mixer has an open structure, eliminating the risk of clogging. Alternatively, the KVM can mix additives introduced upstream of the mixer or mix additives injected directly in front of the first mixing element.

Technical Specification
  • KVM Diameter: from 2″ – 48″
  • Fast & cost-efficient solutions due to standardised design
  • SMI Diameter: from 25mm – 250mm
  • Wide variety of materials available, also for highly corrosive fluids
  • Multiple additive feed possible
  • Low energy consumption due to small pressure drop

Sulzer SMX plus

A Revolution for Laminar Flow

The Sulzer static mixer type SMX plus excels with the most efficient homogenisation at some 50% of the usual pressure drop in laminar flow applications.

Even challenging mixing applications such as dosing a small amount of low-viscous additive into a high-viscous main stream can be performed in a particularly efficient manner.

Depending upon the application either smaller pumps with lower energy consumption can be used or much smaller mixers could be designed, potentially resulting in reduced size of the whole plant.

The possibility of performing a mixing duty with a smaller mixer and strongly reduced residence times can be useful in cases where product degradation is quite problematic.

Technical Specification
  • SMx plus diameter: 15 mm – 200 mm
  • Excellent mixing and dispersing even with widely differing fluid viscosities
  • Standard material: stainless steel, 1.4404
  • Efficient mixing of sensitive products under minimal shear stress
  • Benefit from no deposits or blockages
  • SMX plus with 50% lower pressure drop compared to standard SMX mixer

Sulzer SMR Heat Exchanger

Where Mixing meets Heat Transfer

If you wish to combine effective mixing with controlled heat transfer, the Sulzer SMR tube bundle heat exchanger is the perfect choice for you.

The SMR’s specifically configured tube bundles are positioned perpendicular to each other, which enhances radial mixing across volume highly packed with the heat transfer surface area.

Water, steam, thermal oil or other special cooling media can be used as a heat transfer fluid. In fact, each bundle can be designed to feature different mixing and heat transfer effects in order to meet stringent process requirements.

Technical Specification
  • SMR diameter: from 80mm – 1600 mm
  • Excellent plug flow behaviour and narrow residence time distribution
  • High flexibility with regard to operation and down-turn
  • Low shear, thus gentle product treatment
  • Well-defined mixing and small reaction volume due to high driving force
  • No rotating parts which means minimal maintenance costs
  • No hot spots and no dead zones
  • Fast product transition and fast change of process conditions
  • Flanged design is ideal if process routine requests periodic removal of bundles

Sulzer Monotube Heat Exchanger SMXL

Intregrated Technology for High Heat Transer

The Sulzer SMXL monotube heat exchanger is the simplest version of a static mixer/heat exchanger. This can be used as either a heat exchanger or reactor for applications that require continuous mixing.

With the SMXL, the product stream flows through the inner pipe. The heat carrier medium for cooling or heating the product circulates between the inner and outer pipe. The inner pipe, from which the product flows through, is filled with static mixing elements, creating a radial mixing effect.

This results in considerably increased heat transfer and a narrow residence time distribution. Furthermore, a continuous renewal of the thermal boundary layer on the piping wall prevents thermal damage of heat-sensitive products.

Technical Specification
  • SMXL diameter: DN 10 – DN 50
  • Self-cleaning behaviour
  • High heat transfer coefficient (approx 4 times better that that of an empty pipe)
  • Length: Up to 5 meters
  • High degree of plug flow
  • Quick change from one product grade to another
  • Design pressure: up to 250 bar
  • Narrow residence time distribution
  • Gentle treatment due to short residence time

Sulzer Multitube Heat Exchanger SMXL

Efficient Heat Transfer for Viscous Media

The Sulzer SMXL multitube mixer/heat exchanger provides improved heating or cooling of viscous media at high throughput’s. It is the perfect alternative when the flow is too high to be handled by the monotube variant.

With the multitube mixer, the main stream is divided into several partial pipe streams with the same operation mode as the monotube design. However, unlike the monotube heat exchanger, the SMXL multitube has no restrictions with regard to product or heat to be transferred.

The SMXL can be particularly advantageous for use in applications where part of the product starts evaporating whilst already in the heat exchanger.

Technical Specification
  • SMR diameter: DN 10 – DN 32
  • Low shear rate
  • Increased heat transfer coefficient for highly viscous products
  • Length: up to 5 meters
  • Narrow residence time distribution
  • Quick change from one product grade to another
  • Design pressure: up to 250 bar
  • Design temperature: up to 350 °C
  • Every design is tailor-made to match customer specification
